I'll do some Norwegian subs as soon as I have some free time (in august? 2035?). If anyone else is interested, then get in touch!

I`m also joining the team for Brazilian Portuguese translation. I finished the maxwell version of the harassment episode, that is available here: http://tinyurl.com/72tgqjb I`ll make some more revisions and wait for maxwell`s review so I can submit.

Man, I have been translating since "Daniel Floyd presents" times. Even one of my mentors used some of that material on a thesis.

I speak Latin-American Spanish (Some people call it "Neutral Spanish") and I would be honored to translate Extra Credits to my language.

Greetings from Chile! This is going to be awesome!

Hey guys!
I can take the helm with Polish subtitles, although I'd prefer to wait for English transcripts, as that method is much much easier. Especially if you'd prepare those in .xml, Excel is pretty handy for stuff like that.

If any other fellow Pole would like to take initiative, I'll be more than happy to proofread instead of translating from scratch. It's a time issue thing, I may have enough of it to do translations, or it can happen that I'll only be able to make some corrections to a ready text.

I'm very happy to help, I'll read up on the tips Dan gave soon and I'll see how long it takes me to translate an episode with no transcript... based on that I'll see what else I can do.

Ummm.... I think I can give translating it to Hebrew a go... Yea, why not.
But it will help me alot if every time an English translitaion is complete you will give a download to the .srt file so we wont have to do the timing over and over again for the same episode. It will save so much time.

Yesterday I translated to Spanish the first two episodes: "Bad writing in video games" and "The future of the MMO". Although I have to give them a second look and change a couple of things. For example, I realized that I've been using the form "vosotros", which is only used in Spain, so I'll have to change it to "ustedes".

This evening (for me. For you it will be in the afternoon lol) I'll put them in this post so you can proofread and neutralize the rest. We can just put the translations in this thread (hidden by spoiler so it doesn't get too long) until the sub-forum is ready.

One idea for all the languages, though: maybe we should start translating the most recent YouTube episode and then alternate new and old episodes to maintain the audience updated. As in, first we translate the latest episode, then the first one, then the second most recent, then the second one, and so on.

By the way, for the translators: how can we best organize that? It seems to me that it'd be very useful if we can have a good English .srt file first and then use its timings as a guideline for the translations. Otherwise everyone starts to do their own timing and that would be a waste of time.

That's a great idea.

We'll still have to adjust the timing a little bit, but it would definitely save a lot of time.
However Dan, it would be good if you could give us the script of the new episodes as soon as you publish them in Penny Arcade. That way we can have the translation ready by the time you upload them to YouTube.

Hi

I would like to help with the german subtitles.

I tried myself on german and english subtitles for the Mailbag #4 episode a while ago.

http://www.universalsubtitles.org/de/vi ... g-4/#video

Would these be adequate?

I accidently hit the upload button twice for the german subtitles, they are both the same.

I'm happy to volunteer on the german subtitles, too, but before I start working I'd like us a wee organized so I'm not working my evenings to death for something already done ^^

Hey Dreydn,

Nice, now we are 4 people for the German subtitles - vaizard27, Morielen, you and me :) Maybe we can check real quick who would like to to what (writing, proofreading or implementing) most.

Personally, I prefer proofreading / correcting.

PS: Your subtitles seem quite solid, I'd just like to correct some minor things. Can I find the .srt somewhere?

I will make a google-doc if that's okay with you guys (german subs) to keep us organized, so everybody is up to date about the work of the others at any time.

You will get the link in a bit.

Hey guys,

I created the project-overview spreadsheet (Google Doc) for any language now, not just German - please add the ones that I may have forgotten - this is a template after all.

It can be found here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... HJPOHh6d0E

It might help us get an overview of the overall progress that is being made on this amazing project :)

Just enter your name in the episode-slot that you want to be working on and fill in the respective status-color (instructions are in the sheet).

And feel free to correct any errors or add notes in the document ;)

I propose that you would make a subforum for this if it's not too much of a trouble.
We could have threads for each language there and a separate sticky thread if needed for guidelines/rules on such things as that a subtitle needs to be visible from min. 1.5 seconds to max 6 seconds if i remember correctly, maximum lenght of each line and such.
Also,if people are up for it, we could set up irc-channel for ourselves to have a place where to talk about things

*Edit* I understand there are English subtitles for some episodes already? If that's the case, can we have those .srt files uploaded somewhere where we can get them to use as a base so we can skip timing. We could come up with some kind of system so that everyone doesn't need to time each and every episode on their own. *Edit*

Looks like a great document, nice work!
I think it'd be handier if the English work would include a seperate "Timing" task (probably just instead of writing since we get the transcript in English), because one person doesn't read things with the same speed as others, so we need multiple people to get the timing right, especially if it's going to be used as template for all the translations.

By the way I'd be willing to do some work for Dutch translations, but I'm WAY too busy for that atm.
I'll see if I can finish my English subs for one episode tonight (didn't bother to continue yesterday) to at least have a good idea of the time it takes to convert the transcript into subs, and then re-time everything properly.

Hi everyone! I'm interested in translating the episodes into Portuguese, and I can see quite a few users are already working on it. Thing is, these users are working on Brazilian Portuguese, and I want to make Portuguese from Portugal translations.
If there's anyone out there who wants to help, I'm not gonna hog all episodes!
Anyway, I'll start with the first episode soon.

A suggestion to all translators:

It would definetly be more efficient if all members working on the same language us the same software/site to write/edit ei: google doc or anything out there in order to keeep tract on not just who is doing what but what doc needs review or is fully polished for captioning.

@CmdrEdem
great work! I made a few updates, but there was almost nothing left to do :)
For other Brazilian guys there, if you have any comments or suggestions, they're welcome.
All in all, I think we already have our first PT-br subtitle!

Thanks again, Daniel (both Daniels ;)

Good suggestion, I changed "WRITTEN" to "TIMING" now (English only) and someone changed the other "written" to "translated" - I guess that's better as well.

Of course we could add color-codes for "needs to be reviewed" etc. to visualize this in the doc. But I think by just selecting green for "translated" should make it clear for the proofreader, that he/she is ready to go (and so on).

Glad you guys like the idea of organizing it this way ;)

I think Dropbox would be a very good solution for sharing the .srt files.
If you like the idea: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/b4v23s4lyw598x6/nqOE0E20Gy
(hope this works...)

I also added this to my signature so you don't have to search the forum for the link everytime - in case you lose it.

Thanks Dreydn for already doing so ;)

(@Dreydn: I will check your subs soon as I get home from work.)

BR PORTUGUESE GUYS

Not that I want to rule anything, but I thought it would be great if we could organize ourselves so we can advance better. So, I created a public GoogleDocs Sheet, so we can tell everyone in wich episode each of us is working in.
I guess is better for the whole ! =]

The link to it is this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... zVwM1RuREE

I would love if we could do this all together.
Cheers !
